A trainee's participation in the J-1 Visa program may incur the following expenses: Marriott Program Fee

There is no program fee for J-1 sponsorship under Marriott's J-1 program for supervisory or management level programs. Please see Marriott's J-1 Visa Sponsorship Program for more details.

AIPT Program Fee

Most external J-1 Visa sponsorship organizations charge a program fee for sponsoring of the visa. The AIPT program fee is $1000 for non-students and $800 for students. This program fee may be paid by the employer or trainee, or shared between the two parties. If AIPT decides not to accept the application, a $100 administrative fee is deducted from the program fee and the rest is refunded.

Trainees are usually required to pay their own fees. Some properties offer assistance with the program fees as an incentive for trainees to come to those properties. Some of the ways properties can assist trainees with the fee include:
  • Paying the fee initially and deducting from the trainee's paychecks for reimbursement
  • Splitting the cost of the fee with the trainee
  • Reimbursing the trainee for some or all of the fee upon successful completion of the training program
The program fee payment should be sent with the application forms. Payment must be in U.S. dollars, in the form of check or money order, and made payable to AIPT. AIPT also accepts credit card payments. Instructions for payment from outside the U.S. are included with the trainee's application packet.

If the trainee brings any dependents with him/her, there is an additional $100 dependent documentation fee.

Other Expenses

In most cases, trainees are expected to pay for their airline tickets, as well as their living expenses while in the U.S., including rent, electricity, phone, transportation, etc.
