General Information
The J-1 Visa practical training program allows student and non-student candidates from abroad who are currently working or studying in the hospitality field to participate in practical training programs with U.S. Marriott hotels. The purpose of the programs is to train candidates in Marriott standards of hotel operation.
If you are considering a career-enhancing training opportunity with Marriott in the U.S., you should know the following:
- Candidates are trained full-time for a period of up to 18 months. Their training must be in the form of an on-the-job practical training program.
- Candidates are placed in hotel-designed training programs in rooms division, food and beverage, and/or other areas.
- Once an offer of training has been made to an international trainee candidate, both parties must apply to a J-1 Visa sponsorship organization (such as AIPT). This is an organization which is authorized by the U.S. government to issue a document called an Form IAP-66, or Certificate of Eligibility. The Form IAP-66 allows a foreign national to apply for the J-1 Visa at the U.S. Embassy/Consulate in his/her country of citizenship or permanent residence.
- Candidates can train in hourly positions through external J-1 Visa sponsorship organizations (such as AIPT), and in supervisory and management positions through Marriott's J-1 Visa sponsorship program.
- You can find a training position at a U.S. hotel through the use of this web site!
