Marriott is an equal opportunity employer committed to hiring a workforce as diverse and high-performing as the guests we serve. We look for employees who are passionate about working in the hospitality industry and have the spirit to serve for which we’re known around the world.

Our selection process is designed to allow us to get to know each other better. This is important to do at the start of any journey!

We know that interviewing can be stressful and lead to more questions than answers. Our recruiting team members are available to help guide you through the process and answer your questions. While it may take some time to go through these steps, the process helps both you and us make the best decision. Our internship candidates experience one interview as part of the selection process. For our management training program candidates, the process includes additional steps and interviews as we both consider a longer term employment commitment.

Do you have what is takes to be a leader? The level of the position you are interviewing for will determine the level of expertise we will require. During the interview process, a member of our team will be looking to evaluate these competency areas:

  • Leadership
It’s not only about having the title. We’re looking to understand your leadership style and experiences leading a team, a project, or a personal group.
  • Managing Execution
What have you done when faced with challenging work or projects that need to be prioritized? What experience do you have connecting people or resources to get work done?
  • Building Relationships
We try to understand your ability to build and nurture relationships by understanding how you have done so in the past.
  • Learning & Applying Professional Expertise
How have you built your base of expertise in the past and how do you apply and develop skills on top of what you've already learned?
  • Generating Talent & Organizational Capability
We look to understand your ability to help build our organization by gaining insight on how you have worked with others in the past.

Our Management Training Programs Selection Processes

Marriott offers several management training programs each with their own selection process and timeframe.

The Management Development Programs (MDP)

1. Learn About Marriott

Before you begin the selection process, we encourage you to learn everything you can about Marriott’s business, brands, and culture, and explore areas of the business that may be of interest to you.

As you explore career possibilities with Marriott, consider:

  • Exploring the Plan Your Career section of the site to learn about the industry and the types of positions at Marriott.
  • Taking time to meet our university interns, recent university graduates, and more seasoned employees in the Meet Our People section of the site, and learn more about our culture and history in Discover Our World to determine if Marriott is a fit for what you’re interested in.

2. Apply Online

The second step in the selection process is to apply online for a management training program position.

  • Visit the College Connection site.
  • Follow the indicated steps to submit your resume and applicant information.

3. Schedule On-Campus Interview

The third step in the selection process is to interview with one of our Marriott Recruiters.

As you prepare for your interview with a Marriott Recruiter:

  • Review all of the sections of our university site, our consumer site and our corporate site.
  • Take time to research our company; search online for news and updates about Marriott and its brands.
  • Dress professionally; working at Marriott requires an eye for detail and exceptional grooming standards.
  • Double check the time, date, and location of the interview.
  • Have examples of your past experiences ready to share with your interviewer; you can share examples from school, past jobs, volunteer or other experiences.
  • Use the interview to determine if Marriott is the place for you; think about what questions you may have about the position, the university intern or management training program, a specific brand or area of the business, and the company in general.

4. Complete Online Assessment

The fourth step in the selection process is to take an online assessment designed to evaluate your skills for the position to which you are applying.

5. Final Interview

If you advance to this step a final interview will be scheduled.

6. Offer Process

The last step in the selection process is to receive an offer to participate in the university internship or management training program. If you receive an offer you will be contacted by the Marriott Recruiter directly. The recruiter will provide you with the details in a letter and then ask you to complete some pre-hire paperwork and activities.

If you receive an offer to become an employee of Marriott:

  • Make sure you understand all of the details of the offer and the next steps.
  • Ask questions to ensure you understand what would be expected of you on the job.
  • Think carefully about whether Marriott is the right place for you; you will be asked to work hard and deliver exceptional service, and in return you will be a part of something that could change your life.

When you have been offered and accepted a position with Marriott, you’ll become part of an exceptional family of passionate hospitality professionals. To help you succeed, you’ll be expected to attend onboarding/orientation sessions, as well as training that is specific to your brand, location and position.

This process is designed to ensure we offer opportunities for candidates to excel in the selection process. It also gives us the chance to get to know each other better and for us to introduce you to our company, culture and the responsibilities that come with a career in hospitality leadership. Note: We will be opening our application process for our 2011 Voyage programme in late Fall 2010.
