Fairfield Inn GMs 'Roll Up Their Sleeves' for Habitat for HumanityMore than 170 Fairfield Inn and Fairfield Inn & Suites general managers helped build three homes while in New Orleans for the 2009 Select Service General Managers conference. The activity was part of Fairfield Inn's Hospitality at Home program through Habitat for Humanity, which combines cash, in-kind donations and volunteerism to benefit local members of the organization. Since partnering with Habitat for Humanity in 1995, Fairfield Inn associates have built more than 60 homes. Participating hotels have also donated surplus building materials and furnishings for resale at Habitat ReStores, which support local home builds. Read the full press release.

Marriott's Global Community Service Day Focuses on Shelter and Hunger ReliefWith demands on shelters and hunger relief organizations increasing worldwide, Marriott International placed a special emphasis on shelter and food—one of its signature social responsibility issues—during its 2008 global Spirit To Serve Our Communities Day. This annual event engages the company's more than 146,000 employees at more than 3,100 properties in the United States and 66 other countries and territories to volunteer in their local communities. In Atlanta, Chairman and CEO J.W. “Bill” Marriott, Jr., City Council President Lisa Borders and employees from local Marriott hotels sorted thousands of pounds of food at the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Marriott's London Hotels Clean-up Woodland Park More than 25 London Marriott hotel general managers and other employees joined forces to improve a woodland park in central London. The group hopes to encourage greater use of this urban green space as a sanctuary for people and a place of biodiversity, while protecting and preserving the park's history.

Youth Career Initiative Students Graduate Thanks to the JW Marriott Mexico City The The JW Marriott Mexico City recently celebrated the graduation of Youth Career Initiative (YCI) students for the second consecutive year. A total of 25 students participated in the education program with five students receiving their training at the JW Marriott Mexico City. The Youth Career Initiative enables international hotels to provide a six-month education program for high school graduates from disadvantaged backgrounds. The program is designed to empower young people by providing them with the necessary life and vocational skills to expand their choices and improve their lives.

Philadelphia Business Council Fundraiser Hits 'Jackpot' for CMNMarriott's Philadelphia Business Council hosted a combined customer event and fundraiser to benefit the Children's Miracle Network (CMN) at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. Their 3rd Annual Monte Carlo Night included great food, casino-style games and a silent auction. The event raised $53,000 for CMN! David Marriott, Regional Vice President for Market Management for the Eastern U.S. Region, was on hand to mingle with guests and present the award check to CMN.  DiversityInc Ranks Marriott Fourth Among 'Top 50 Companies for Diversity'

Marriott International was ranked fourth among The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity, up from #11 in 2008 and #46 in 2007. Marriott also ranked among the Top 10 Companies on three specialty lists - Supplier Diversity, Executive Women and African-Americans. Read the full   press release.

 Marriott Named to 'World's Most Ethical Companies' List by the Ethisphere Institute

Marriott has been named by Ethisphere magazine to its "2008 World's Most Ethical Companies" list by researchers and analysts at the Ethisphere Institute, a think-tank dedicated to the research and promotion of profitable best practices in global governance, business ethics, compliance and corporate responsibility. Several thousand companies were reviewed to determine the finalists, which included a rigorous, multi-step evaluation process. "Marriott is among the companies honored this year because they have developed impressive and meaningful ethical business practices, making them true standouts within their industries," said Alexander Brigham, executive director of the Ethisphere Institute.  Marriott Australia Hotel Earns 2008 HM Award for Community Service

The Melbourne Marriott Hotel received the 2008 HM - Hotel & Accommodation Management Award for service to the community. The hotel donates $1 from every full breakfast buffet sold to the Humour Foundation “Clown Doctors,” a charity that works with local children's hospitals. Melbourne Marriott employees also provide support to the Salvation Army through canned food and clothing drives.  The Shelbourne Dublin Wins 2008 Irish Hospitality Diversity Award

The Shelbourne Dublin, A Renaissance Hotel, was honored with the 2008 Irish Hospitality Diversity Award by the National Action Plan Against Racism (NPAR). The hotel was recognized for nurturing many diverse backgrounds among their staff through structured and meaningful integration strategies and resources. The Hospitality Diversity Awards were developed by NPAR to recognize and celebrate the initiatives, policies and practices taken by companies and individuals who have embraced diversity within the Irish Hospitality and Tourism industry.
