Texas state capitol and home to the flagship campus of the University of Texas, Austin embodies a college town with an urban attitude. An abundance of local businesses and unique hotels helps “Keep Austin Weird.”

Start at the top and take a free guided tour of the largest state capitol in the country (measuring 302-feet high). The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum offers three floors filled with Lone Star State history and also houses Austin’s only IMAX theatre.

Officially known as the “Live Music Capitol of the World,” Austin fills its hotels with music-lovers year-round. The Austin City Limits Music Festival and South by Southwest Festival are particularly big draws featuring a variety of musical genres. For live music with a local flair, check out the bars and restaurants of the Sixth Street District.

Nature is an object of worship in the city, and among skyscrapers and hotels in downtown Austin, visitors will find plenty of green space. Zilker Metropolitan Park covers 351 acres and houses the Austin Nature & Science Center. Lady Bird Lake’s 10 miles of trails entice runners and bikers. And don’t miss the uniquely Austin event that occurs nightly at the Congress Avenue Bridge – 1.5 million bats taking flight at dusk.
