Situated near the mouth of the Pasquotank River and the coastal Outer Banks, Elizabeth City has been named one of America’s 100 best small towns. Known as the “Harbor of Hospitality,” there’s southern charm aplenty here for our hotel guests.
Elizabeth City restaurants serve up a wide variety of international and American cuisine. Come by Logan Raye’s and try some authentic Caribbean cuisine, visit Mamasita’s for Mexican chalupas and chimichangas, and you can’t go wrong with Toyama and its imported Japanese drinks. Main Street’s Muddy Waters Coffee House brews a mean espresso, and the nightlife at Level’s is perfect for an after-dinner excursion before returning to your Elizabeth City hotel room.
There is also history and culture to be experienced in the city. The Moth Boat––a one-person racing sailboat—was invented here, and races still take place regularly. For a slower-paced afternoon, you can peruse the exhibits at the Museum of the Albemarle, recounting the history of northeastern North Carolina.
If you’re missing the big city, Norfolk, Virginia is only a short drive north of your Elizabeth City accommodations. There, you can visit the Norfolk Naval Base, the world’s largest navy installation and home port to five U.S. aircraft carriers.
