The Courtyard Nashville Downtown, a century-old high-rise set in the heart of the city's historic district, is within walking distance to Printer's Alley, 2nd Avenue and the Convention Center. Originally built in 1904 and converted to a Courtyard by Marriott hotel in 1997, the historic building is over 100 years old.
Exterior - Printers Alley View
Although the Printers have long since gone, The World Famous Printers Alley still remains, providing a Flair of Bourbon Street for those in search of some nightlife.
In 1904 the building was named the First National Bank Building. It was later known as the Independent Life Insurance Company Building and finally was known as the Third National Bank building. In 1968, the J.C. Bradford Company moved into the building and remained there for about 18 years. After sitting empty for almost 11 years it avoided demolition and in 1997 was renovated into today's Courtyard by Marriott Nashville Downtown.
Historic Third National Bank
In 1927, Frank Farris and his brothers invested in the stock of a new Nashville bank, The Third National, representing major growth in banking and commercial building. The bank boomed through 1929 and weathered through the Great Depression era, staying in business throughout. In 1936, Third National Bank built a twelve-story addition to the original building and renovated to a more modern facade. The additional building was among the first air-conditioned buildings in Nashville.
