Blue Bar – Smoker's Lounge
The Renaissance Lucerne Hotel is a non-smoking hotel. However, in order to offer smokers the possibility to enjoy a cigarette, smoking is permitted in the Blue Bar Lounge. This octagonal over 34 meters (111,5 ft.) tower was built around the 13th century as part of the city wall. Used as archives, treasury, prison and torture chamber. Lucerne’s trademark and the most photographed monument in Switzerland.
The Chapel Bridge was constructed in the first half of the 14th century as part of the city’s fortifications. The paintings added in the 17th century illustrate scenes of Swiss and local history. With 205 meters, it is the second longest canopied timber bridge in Europe.
The dying Lion of Lucerne is one of the world's most famous monuments. It was hewn out of natural rock in memory of the heroic death of the Swiss mercenaries at the Tuileries in 1792. Globetrotter Mark Twain described it as "the saddest and most moving piece of rock in the world".
Lucerne is surrounded by the most majestic mountains. Mt. Pilatus and Mt. Titlis are definitely worth a visit. See from their peaks the panoramic array of the snow-capped Alps.

Old Town Lucerne
Historical, frescopainted buildings border the old city on the right bank of the Reuss at a few picturesque squares. Here at the Weinmarkt, the people of Lucerne swore a federal oath with the cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden.
This was the first large sacral Baroque building in Switzerland. It was constructed in 1666 for the Jesuits. The original vestments of Brother Klaus, a famous Swiss patron, are stored in the inner chapel.
This is the main cathedral for the city population and religious center for St. Leodegar and Mauritius. Built in the 8th century and rebuilt in 1645 after a fire, it is the most important Renaissance church building in Switzerland.
