Description

The Universität Leipzig opened on December 2, 1409 and is among the oldest universities in Germany. With ever-increasing student population, it's also the second biggest university in Saxen, behind Dresden. Many eminent intellectual figures and writers like Ulrich von Hutten, Thomas Müntzer, Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker studied here. The site was highly damaged during World War II and many buildings have been replaced by uninspired concrete buildings. The University Tower on Augustusplatz is the eye-catcher in this landscape, as it was supposed to remind visitors of an open book. Despite its shape, it was called The Style Tooth or the The Wisdom Tooth. With its 100-meter height, it is a most distinctive landmark of the city! All in all, with a highly-educated staff, this university has set a bench mark in imparting superior quality knowledge to its students.
