The Ships

Description

The Maritime Museum's most treasured exhibition is, in fact, too large and unwieldy to fit within its main facility. The museum's crown truly is its collection of historic ships, and each ship is a glorious jewel in that crown. Most popular is the Star of India, the world's oldest working ship. The steam ferry Berkeley is no slouch in the age department, having been in service since 1898. A steam yacht from 1904, called Medea, is the ultimate in period luxury. A replica of an 18th-century British frigate, known as the HMS Surprise, brings a hint of royalty to the collection. A pilot boat, a 19th-century cutter, and a B-39 submarine round out the group.
