Marriott Vacation Club International (MVCI), the vacation ownership division of Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) and recognized industry leader, was honored by The Gallup Organization in their first-ever Great Workplace Awards. Gallup developed the award to recognize the most productive and engaged workforces around the globe.

Named among 11 other world-renowned companies, MVCI made a commitment in 2002 to build, track and maintain a strengths-based organization. This commitment has led to greater associate engagement through such initiatives as:

• Identifying associate strengths and providing training on how to utilize in the workplace and at home

• Training managers or “coaches” to further develop these strengths

• Developing a 15,000 square-foot Talent Experience Center near the Orlando corporate offices where associates participate in learning labs

• Issuing surveys two times per year to gauge associate satisfaction and engagement

These initiatives have assisted MVCI in reaching the 89th percentile (high performing work group) of Gallup’s database of more than 450 companies, as well as MVCI’s annual sales growth averaging 20 percent. This feedback supports Marriott International’s core values and enduring purpose of “take care of associates, and they will take care of guests,” as noted by J. Willard Marriott.

“Receiving Gallup’s Great Workplace Award reflects our passion for building a rewarding work environment and ultimately, creating a lifetime of vacation memories for our owners and guests,” said Stephen P. Weisz, president of Marriott Vacation Club International. “I am always inspired when reading letters from our owners. They relay stories of thoughtful care and above-and-beyond service. And it is with this commitment to developing one-to-one relationships with one another and our customers, we continually witness how effectively a strengths-based approach can work.”

“Studying more than 10 million employees worldwide allowed us to set an extraordinarily high bar for this award,” said Tom Rath, who leads Gallup’s Workplace and Leadership Consulting practice. “The winners have gone far beyond just offering nice perks and benefits. They have created an environment that truly engages people every day, throughout the organization.”

“At Marriott Vacation Club International,” continued Rath, “their commitment to developing the strengths of its associates is truly unparalleled.”

About The Gallup Great Workplace Award
The Gallup Great Workplace Awards recognize the best-performing workforces in the world. Applicants’ results are compared across a workplace research database comprised of millions of work teams in more than 100 countries. A panel of workplace experts assesses the applicants’ results to select the winners.

The physical award’s weight and design equal the merit of the winners’ accomplishments. To create the award, Gallup designers collaborated with R.S. Owens & Co., the company that produces many of the world’s most prestigious awards, including the Academy Awards. The award consists of two components. The top design features 12 etched crystal planes, layered to convey the kinetic energy of an engaged workforce. The crystal sits atop a concave-shaped pedestal base comprised of polished silver-plated legs and a satin finish front display. The combination of these parts results in a piece that evokes the nature of engagement.
