Available at selected Marriott brand hotels and resorts and The Ritz-Carlton hotels, you will need an upgrade reward for each night in an upgraded room, in addition to your regular hotel reward.

Please note: You can only use upgrade rewards when you are redeeming points for a hotel stay; you cannot use upgrade rewards to upgrade a paid room.

Point Upgrades

Paid Upgrades

Upgrade rewards are available for 5,000 points each. Most rooms require only one upgrade reward per night. However, some hotels require two or more upgrade rewards per night, depending on the view or room type. Availability varies by hotel.
At select hotels you can pay for an upgrade on a cost per night basis. The specific price varies by hotel and will be charged to your room during your stay. No Marriott or The Ritz-Carlton Rewards points are involved with paid upgrades.
How to upgrade

For example, after booking a standard room for 90,000 points, here's three upgrade scenarios:
Point Upgrade
Upgraded Room Points/Cost
3 nights at Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa Ocean view room 90,000 points +
(5,000 points x 3 nights) =
90,000 + 15,000 =
105,000 points
Point Upgrade — Two Upgrade Rewards/Night
Upgraded Room Points/Cost
3 nights at Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa Ocean view room 90,000 points + 5,000 points
x (2 upgrades/night x 3 nights)=
90,000 + 30,000 =
120,000 points
Paid Upgrade
Upgraded Room Points/Cost
3 nights at Desert Springs, A JW Marriott Resort & Spa, Palm Desert Superior view room 90,000 points + ($25* x 3 nights) =
90,000 points + $75

*This is just an example. Each hotel determines the specific cost at that property.
