If you’ve got a story, Brad Smoley wants to listen. During the last six years in his role as Guest Service Agent & Westin Experience Specialist at The Westin Edmonton, Brad has been listening to guests’ stories — why they travel, why they stay with Westin and what makes them “tick.” Listening, he says, is his best skill.

Recently, Brad was checking out a Platinum guest early in the morning and heard the guest mention his car was in need of a wash. Brad quickly coordinated with the valet team to wash and shine the outside and inside of the guest’s car. After a full day of meetings, the guest returned to find his car in pristine condition, along with two bottles of water and Brad’s farewell card waiting for him inside!

Director of Human Resources Karen Gugulyn says, “He always goes above and beyond. He asks how he can make a guest’s stay more special and more memorable. Brad is the reason we have so many loyalty members.”

Brad’s dedication to his guests doesn’t stop when they check out of his hotel. He will help create memorable stays for past guests at other Marriott International hotels. Brad says, “When I listen to a guest and hear about their plans to travel elsewhere, I do some research to help give them the best experience. I’ll reach out to my counterparts at other hotels to help make their stay more memorable.”

His passion for knowing people and knowing their stories extends to his personal life, too. Since joining the Westin, each year Brad and his wife visit a new place somewhere around the world. They fully immerse themselves in the culture and the people. These trips fit into who Brad is: “Above all, my passion is knowing people!”
