Behind the scenes of every banquet held at the Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld, there is one unofficial leader who keeps everyone calm and ensures everything gets to where it needs to be. Hung Quach may have the title of banquet server, but he really is considered the “conductor” — passionately leading the culinary team and servers to execute flawless events.

Hung began his 31-year Marriott career as a busboy in the Haifeng restaurant at the hotel, originally branded as a Wyndham. He came to the U.S. after escaping communist Vietnam, enduring a difficult and dangerous journey to arrive in Orlando. During his early years at the hotel, he immersed himself in his new language and culture, adopting the hotel motto as his own: “If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.”

Today, Hung is one of the most experienced and dedicated ambassadors in the Banquet department. He is a key reason why banquets bring in $22 million in revenue each year, helping his department enjoy guest service scores of over 99%. He often helps with site visits, making sure they go smoothly and helping the sales team close on future business.

But Hung’s exceptional service extends beyond the hotel. Recently, one of his banquet associates, John, was diagnosed with bone cancer and required treatment in Tampa (a two-hour drive away). Hung visited the hospital nearly every day and assisted John’s family by driving him to appointments, even sterilizing his temporary apartment in Tampa. John has since recovered and has been able to rejoin the Banquet team.

In his 34 years with Marriott, General Manager Bob Walsh believes Hung is the hardest working associates he’s ever encountered. “He’s the unsung hero of the Banquet department. We couldn’t do it without Hung’s continuous commitment and contributions.”
