Since joining the Marriott International family in 2016, Le Méridien Phuket Beach Resort has adopted the TakeCare mindset to transform its culture into one that helps associates live their best lives, build supportive relationships with each other and promote well-being in their communities. Lead TakeCare Champion and Associate Relations Manager Jehan Suanico says, “Our TakeCare culture is thriving because of the support, energy and passion of our associates to make life matter.”

Each department in the hotel has at least one TakeCare Champion who helps develop and lead opportunities each month. The leadership team actively participates in TakeCare events, and all associates are encouraged to attend at least one event per month. Events focus on Opportunity, Community and Purpose.

  • The hotel created a running team that joins races across the island of Phuket. The team began with 10 runners but having gained popularity among associates now has more than 40 members. The resort also has volleyball and football teams that compete in local competitions. In addition, medical professionals are invited to participate in health fairs at the hotel throughout the year, so associates can get regular medical checkups.
  • Associates participate in a monthly “Sports Day,” playing a variety of team sports on the hotel premises to build unity and sportsmanship. During activities throughout the year, the resort also celebrates some of the 60 different nationalities represented by its associates.
  • Twenty years ago, the resort created a Green Council to support local food sourcing, marine conservation and general community improvement. It recently created an herb garden on a repurposed plot on the resort’s grounds. Associates volunteer monthly to harvest vegetables and learn how the crop will be used in the associate kitchen or the main kitchen for guests. And, since 2006, the resort has actively participated in Phuket’s sea turtle release conservation program.

Associate engagement scores at the hotel have jumped to 98%, with a record-low turnover rate of 6.6%. The resort is also home to over 100 Quarter Century Club members. General Manager Julian Lowry says, “TakeCare is the perfect gateway to helping people be passionate about their work. Our hotel motto is to ‘believe in the team’ and TakeCare certainly has solidified that for us.”
