Prepare to Set Sail

Port of Galveston: With easy access to one of the largest cruise ports, Houston is an ideal place to start your vacation before embarkation. From the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center to the largest Fine Arts Museum in the Southwest, your options to explore are many. And don’t forget to enjoy some darn good barbeque before heading out on the high seas.

The Port of Galveston, located 45 minutes from our hotel, is the fourth busiest home port in the United States with departures from Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Disney Cruise Lines.

Port of Houston: Located only 10 minutes from our hotel, the Port of Houston is the largest port on the entire Gulf of Mexico coast. Centered along the 52-mile-long Houston Ship Channel, the Greater Port of Houston consists of nearly 200 public and private facilities.

You can experience the Port of Houston on the M/V Sam Houston, the port’s public tour vessel since its inaugural voyage on July 30, 1958. This free service offers a leisurely, 90-minute round-trip, educational tour along the Houston Ship Channel. Embarking from Port Houston’s Sam Houston Landing, visiting sightseers aboard the M/V Sam Houston can enjoy passing views of international cargo vessels and operations at the port’s Turning Basin Terminal. The 95-ft. vessel holds up to 100 passengers and features air-conditioned, lounge seating, as well as standing room outside on the boat’s deck.

Space Center Houston

Expand your horizons at NASA’s Space Center Houston, 12 miles from the Courtyard Houston Hobby Airport. Serving as the visitor center for NASA's Johnson Space Center, this learning center and interactive museum focuses on space exploration.

Walk through the space shuttle replica, touch a space rock, or explore one of the traveling exhibits. Get an up-close look at the facilities with a tram tour, then see the impressive Saturn V at the Rocket Park.

Almeda Mall

Just 4 miles southeast of our hotel, you'll find the Almeda Mall. Stop by the department stores and update your wardrobe or take your kids to the toy stores so they can pick out something fun. If you forgot anything for your cruise, there are 66 stores, so you can pick up whatever you're missing. After you're done shopping, stop by one of the delicious restaurants for lunch or dinner.

Kemah Boardwalk

Head to the shore for a day of excitement on the Kemah Boardwalk. Located 22 miles from our hotel on Galveston Bay, this theme park offers everything you need for family-friendly fun.

Ride the Boardwalk Bullet coaster, then get a bird's eye view of the area from the Ferris wheel. Not a thrill seeker? Play games on the midway, pet stingrays in the reef, dine on a delicious meal or look through the eclectic mix of shops.

Houston Zoo

Take a walk on the wild side at the Houston Zoo, located 9 miles away in Hermann Park. It is one of the busiest zoos in the country with a wide variety of animal exhibits.

Learn more about conservation while visiting the collection of carnivores, including tigers, lions and leopards. There is a herd of elephants, an expansive aquarium, and a fun sea lion pool. Younger visitors will love the children's zoo.
