1899
The Milwaukee Road Depot was constructed and remains one of the nation's last long-span, truss-roofed train sheds. The Milwaukee Road train line served the bustling cities of Minneapolis, Chicago, and Milwaukee with connections to growing towns to the growing west.
1971
The last train left the Milwaukee Road Depot. In 1978 the Minnesota Historical Society placed The Depot and the nearby freight house on the National Register of Historic Places.
2001
The entire Depot complex includes The Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot along with 73,000 square feet of state-of-the-art event space and the attached Residence Inn Minneapolis Downtown at The Depot. An urban renewal gem in the center of a vibrant metropolis.
