“When my team and I are cooking, we use family recipes from our birthplaces in Asia”, says Pensiri Pattanachaeng, one of the head chefs at Shakahari. “For me, this means Bangkok. I’ve brought my favorite dishes from home with me, and I import my ingredients from Thailand.” Such authenticity is one of the reasons why this signature vegetarian Asian restaurant that also offers Chinese, Japanese and Indian selections, has a waiting line of guests stretching out of the door most days.

But it’s not just the quality of the food that guests adore at Shakahari; it’s also the quirkiness of the presentation. On arrival, you are ushered towards three Evo grills, where delicious, fresh appetizers are being made. “You can stand with the chefs, interact with them and order whatever you like”, says Pattanachaeng.
Guest can select hot and cold tasting dishes from dozens of choices, including chili-laced Som Tom papaya salad, scallion pancakes and hakka noodles with sesame, before moving on to main courses. To satisy their sweet-tooth, guests are offered treats from the dedicated “dessert room”.

The enthusiasm of the chefs and the imaginative concept behind the restaurant have struck a chord with the local foodies. “It became very popular very quickly,” says Pattanachaeng, “it took less than a week after launch for the idea to catch on. Many restaurants in Pune offer international cuisine, but change it for Indian tastes., We stick to the original flavors, and that’s another reason Shakahari is so popular.”
