Downtown Newport

Thames Street

Thames Street is bustling with bars, restaurants and boutiques. Some of our favorite stops include Lemon & Line and The Cookie Jar. To start exploring, just make a right out of the front hotel entrance.

 

On the harbor

Whether you prefer staying on land or heading out to sea, there is something for you on Newport harbor. Take a cruise to view the local lighthouses aboard the Ava Pearl or for the more adventurous, try jet skiing or kayaking. Rentals are available from Adventure Sports.

 

White Horse Tavern

A trip to downtown Newport, Rhode Island, is not complete without visiting America’s oldest tavern, founded in 1673. Stop by for lunch, dinner or Sunday brunch and enjoy the freshest fish, clams and lobsters from Narragansett Bay paired with local produce from Rhode Island’s farms.

Newport Mansions

Get a glimpse into the life of a Vanderbilt as you tour their immaculate summer home and others of the Gilded Age society. Each mansion has a unique story and architectural style. Mansions are located along Bellevue Avenue. Audio and live tours are available at several of the homes. Please check the schedule as some mansions are open seasonally.

 

Cliff Walk

Don’t forget your camera as you stroll along the Cliff Walk on the eastern shore of Newport. The entire walk is about 3.5 miles with most of the walk on an easy walking path. For those looking to explore further, the Southern tip of the trail is along a rocky and rugged shoreline. The walk starts at the western end by first beach and ends at Bailey's Beach.

 

International Tennis Hall of Fame

See over 1,900 tennis artifacts displayed throughout the exhibit galleries, and then explore the 7-acre historic grounds. The Tennis Hall of Fame is located on Bellevue Avenue, about a 15 minute walk from the hotel.

 

Fort Adams State Park

Originally constructed in 1798, Fort Adams has a vast history that roots back to the Colonial Era. Today, festivals such as the Newport Folk and Jazz Fest are hosted on the grounds. Come discover one of the most historic Newport, RI, attractions, with daily tours from 10am-4pm, May through mid-October. Fort Adams is a 10 minute drive from the hotel.

 

Newport Vineyards

Visit New England’s largest wine grape grower. See the winemaking process with the behind the scenes, 30 minute tour, and then head back to the tasting room or seasonal outdoor patio to relax with wines by the glass. The Vineyard is a 12 minute drive from the hotel.

 

Touro Synagogue

Newport has a Jewish congregation dating back to the 17th century, making it the 2nd oldest congregation in the United States. Come learn about the synagogue's rich history, tickets for the guided tour can be purchased at the Loeb Visitors Center. The synagogue is located on Touro Street, about a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

First Beach

Relax on the white sands and in the blue harbor of First Beach (Easton’s Beach).  First Beach is located on Memorial Boulevard at the start of the Cliff Walk.

 

12 Meter Sailing

Climb aboard for a memorable Newport sailing experience.  Public and private cruises available, tickets can be purchased at the kiosk on Bowen’s Wharf.

 

Helicopter Tours

Get the bird’s eye view of Newport! There are several tours to choose from including the Newport Mansion Tours, Island Tours, and Sunset Tours.

 

Newport Gulls

Come watch the Gulls hit it out of the park. Check the schedule for games dates; the season runs June through August. Cardines field is located across the street from the hotel.

Newport Jazz Fest & Newport Folk Fest

Every July Newport is home to two world class concerts. One of the top things to do in Rhoade Island, hear renowned and new artists from around the world over these 3-day events. Make sure to make reservation early for these weekends as we sell out quickly!

 

Food & Wine Show

Experience a weekend of wining and dining at the historic Newport Mansions. Each September come take part in seminars, tastings and demonstrations at this Newport, RI, event.

 

Flower Show

The Newport Flower Show, held at Rosecliff Mansion each June, represents the Gilded Age at its finest. Expect to see colorful floral designs, horticulture exhibits and elaborate garden displays along with events for the whole family.
