Known as the place to meet in Salzburg’s center, Restaurant Herzl is the local year-round favorite that, during festival time, is the go-to après performance stop. Evidence of its historic prestige lies in the photos of musicians, which line the walls. Leonard Bernstein, Herbert von Karajan, Helmut Luhner, and actor Curt Jurgens are among them.

In 1767, the restaurant was a goldsmith shop. Today, guests enter from Karajanplatz into a folkloristic, creative atmosphere evocative of eras past. Waitresses wear dirndls to emphasize the traditional Austrian ambience.

Dark wood tables and chairs populate the rooms while golden light from scattered lamps cast romance. Fine table linens serve as a simple background for authentic Salzburg cuisine. The restaurant’s signature dish is the famous Nürnberger Bratwürstl, small roasted Nürnberg sausages served with sauerkraut.
