Simtokha Dzong is located approximately 05 kilometers from the capital city of Thimphu. It is a well known landmark, found along the Thimphu-Punakha highway. Built in 1629 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the 18th Drukpa who unified Bhutan, the dzong was the first of its kind built in the country.
