No longer a luxury hotel
I have stayed at St. Regis properties for decades. I must say this property felt like I was staying at a Marriott "business" property. The service wasn't sharp, attentive, or well trained. No one knew anything. Every response was "I will have to check with someone." They were uninformed across the hotel. I was waiting in the lobby for my car. I saw two supposed door men chatting and having a good time in the entry with their backs to the lobby door. They were high-fiving and talking about their Saturday night. During that period, there were three women with bags that struggled to open the door for themselves. They didn't even see them until after they made their way through the door. I went down for coffee in the lounge at 7 a.m.. They didn't set up the coffee and tea service until 7:30 a.m. on that Sunday morning. The bed in the room was a full size and not a queen size bed. It was extremely uncomfortable. Upon check-in we asked the bellman for ice and if there was a tea pot and tea in the room as most luxury hotels have them. Unfortunately, there was not. He indicated that we only needed to call the butler and they would send some up. We called the butler who seemed confused but said she would send some up. In-room dining arrived with our tea 20 minutes later and a bill for $35 for two cups of tea. First, if the hotel is not going to provide tea for their guest in-room, they should not have their customer call butler service for tea and then charge them for it. If this is going to be the case, they should inform the customer that in-room dining can send some up for a charge. Also, prior to arrival, we contacted the concierge for assistance in setting up a restaurant reservation for a birthday celebration (this was to be a surprise). However, she was confused and found a reservation arrival for a different guest and different day even though we provided our arrival date. I then sent her the reservation for her information. When she responded, she included the birthday boy in the email. Not sure why she thought this was a good idea given I had already indicated it was a birthday. Unfortunately, she proceeded to blame me for the confusion. All-in-all, if this is what St. Regis is about, we will no longer stay at any St. Regis property. Beware of this property when choosing a hotel in San Francisco. I'm sure there are other "luxury" hotels with better service and amenities.

Beautiful hotel, odd room.
We stayed at the Saint Regis while attending the fancy food show in San Francisco. It was a bit pricey but seemed to be a relative value when compared to the other properties. The staff in the hotel did not disappoint. The room, on the other hand, was of a strange shape with significant amounts of wasted space and presented difficulties if you simply wanted to watch television.
