Members may not earn both points and miles for the same stay. You may switch from earning miles to points, and vice versa, before a given stay by updating your membership profile or by contacting your local Guest Services office. You will begin earning the new "currency" (points or miles) with your next stay. Previous earnings will not be converted to the new currency. If you wish to "convert" points into miles, redeem your points for a mileage reward.

A "hotel stay" or "stay" means all consecutive nights a Marriott Rewards member registers and personally pays and stays at any participating hotel, and the room is billed to the member.

Mileage Earning
|
 |
- When choosing to earn miles in Marriott Rewards, members must designate a participating airline frequent flyer program to which their miles will be credited. For details on joining a frequent flyer program, please refer to the particular airlines terms and conditions
- A member is eligible to receive miles for staying at participating Marriott Rewards hotels for his/her guestroom and up to two additional rooms. All rooms must be reserved and registered in the member's name and the member must make arrangements for payment of all rooms on a consolidated bill, which should be requested at time of hotel check-in. To ensure miles are automatically posted to member's account, the member should present his/her Marriott Rewards membership card at check-in.
- Charges which do not qualify for miles include taxes applied to the room rate, paid outs, purchase of Marriott gift certificates, charges for Marriott contracting services, and catering or banquet functions charged to the guest room account.
- Once airline miles have been awarded to the designated airline, they may not be changed to another participating airline program's miles, or converted to Marriott Rewards points.
- Members will not receive miles for a Marriott stay made prior to the date application was processed as shown in our records. No retroactive credit will be given.
- Miles earned while staying at any participating hotel located outside the United States will be based on the U.S. dollar conversion at time of checkout of all qualifying charges made during the stay.
- Miles for a room shared by two Marriott Rewards members will only be awarded to one Marriott Rewards member.
- Mileage accrual is limited to individual travel and the room must be paid for individually by the member. The member must have an individual room bill that is paid at checkout or direct billed to the party responsible for paying the bill. If the room is master billed, the charges are not eligible for miles.
If the member attends a convention or group meeting and individually pays Marriott directly for the room, the member will be eligible to receive miles for the stay. However, contract rooms, rooms reserved by corporations on an ongoing basis, master-billed rooms, and rooms booked at the Marriott associate rate are not eligible to earn miles. Miles earned from room contracts or military rates at certain overseas locations are subject to local restrictions and may be ineligible for credit.
- Prepaid wholesale rates booked through 3rd party online retailers are not eligible for miles or Elite night credit, including, but not limited to, Priceline.com, Hotwire.com, Expedia.com, Orbitz.com, Travelocity.com, Hotels.com, etc. Wholesale packages and series tours are not eligible for points.
- If a Marriott Rewards member, prior to check-in chooses to earn Marriott Rewards miles, the member may not earn points or miles in any other frequent traveler program for the same stay.
