Piero Lissoni masterfully unified three historic buildings, seamlessly blending past and present while unveiling a captivating inner garden at the heart of the hotel that became our staple Pavilon Restaurant & Bar. The oldest of the trio, the Weber building, stands as a testament to Neo-Renaissance grandeur, its Heritage room doors adorned with 19th-century paintings from the Hungarian National Gallery. Hungarian culture and folk motifs are woven throughout the design—from the intricate soutache symbols on pillows and carpets to the striking stone sculptures at reception that reimagine traditional wall carpets in a modern form. The breathtaking Zsolnay wall, crafted from over 5,000 custom tiles, serves as a vibrant homage to Hungary’s rich artisanal heritage and Budapest's beloved architectural scene.

Our Story
Dorothea & Joseph
Inspired by the 19th century, our hotel is named after Archduchess Dorothea, one of the most influential characters of the 1800s, who brought immense cultural, social, and economic development to the city alongside her husband, Palatine Joseph. Their tireless work helped Budapest become a renowned European metropolis with the same cosmopolitan essence that echoes through Dorothea Hotel today. Among their many contributions were the construction of the Chain Bridge, the urbanization of Pest, the transformation of Margaret Island, and the opening of the first railway line to the public. Dorothea also advocated for women’s right to study and work, supporting the establishment of kindergartens, a new concept at that time, helping women enter the labor market. In homage to their influential rule, Dorothea Hotel celebrates their innovation and positivity, where history and the present converge harmoniously, evoking Hungary’s Golden Age.
