How Do I Get Started? Learn the Lingo.

Point Spread

Margin of victory, or expected final score differential, between two teams. If the spread is 3 points, you'll see that as both -3 and +3. The team with a spread of -3 is more likely to win; the underdog is less likely to win at +3.

If you expect a team to win by 3 points or more, you’d take that team -3. If you expect a team to lose by less than 3 points OR win, you’d take that team +3. When you see a half a point in the spread, the team you pick must win by the next highest whole number.

Moneyline

Pick the outright winner of a game/event; a bet where the point spread is replaced by odds of winning or losing.

Team A is favored at -146 to win, Team B are the underdogs at +124. At odds of +124, you’d win $124 if you bet $100 (plus your initial $100 wager back). At odds of -146, you'd win $68.49, plus your initial wager back, for a payout of $168.49.

Over/Under

Pick the total number of points scored in a game – over, or under, a set amount of expected points.

The over/under in a baseball game is at 9 runs. Over 9 runs is at -115 and under 9 runs is at -105. Over 9 runs has a slightly higher expectation of happening. When you see a half a point in the over/under, the team you pick must score the next highest whole number of runs.

Parlay

Grouped wagers where you combine bets on multiple games (or multiple wagers within a single game) into one bigger bet for a bigger payday – you must win all “legs” of the wager to receive the payout.

You take Team A to win outright against Team B at -186. You take Team C to win outright against Team D at -148. Your total parlay odds are now +157 ($100 would win you $157, plus your wager back).
