Unrivaled History
Established in October 1923, The Stoneleigh was once the tallest structure west of the Mississippi and is now a celebrated National Historic Landmark. Originally known as The Stoneleigh Court Apartment Hotel, this Beaux-Arts masterpiece was designed by local architect F.J. Woerner. In 1934, the property was purchased by Colonel Harry E. Stewart, a regular guest who fell in love with the hotel while in residence. Following the acquisition, Stewart added Texas’s first-ever penthouse and commissioned Dorothy Draper—the first woman to own a U.S. interior design firm—to create the distinct, maximalist aesthetic that remains a signature today. Draper’s legendary influence brought English oak and 500-year-old Italian marble to the eleventh and twelfth floors. These stunning materials still define the penthouse, its terrace, the library, the music and dining rooms, and the elegant Draper and Stewart living spaces. History and luxury converge here in every meticulously crafted detail.
