Since 1997, Salzburg is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and is considered a city with "special value for the mankind". The world famous Mirabell Gardens are located directly opposite the Sheraton Grand Salzburg and the historic old town is only a few minutes’ walk away. There you can experience Salzburg's most famous historic alley, the Getreidegasse and Mozart's birthplace house. In the heart of Salzburg and in walking distance from the Hotel, is the statue of Salzburg's prodigy Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the Salzburg Dome and the Residence building. Above the old town, the Salzburg Fortress been towering for several hundred years and offers a breathtaking view over the old town and Salzburg. The fortress can be accessible via the fortress cable car and offers guided tours as well as a museum that tells the history of the fortress over the last hundred years. The adjacent Mönchsberg can reached by foot or comfortably via the traditional elevator.
