Gasparilla Pirate Festival
Held annually in January or February, The Gasparilla Pirate Festival celebrates the legend of Jose Gaspar, nicknamed Gasparilla. Gasparilla is a mythical Spanish pirate who supposedly raided the west coast of Florida in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
During the annual Pirate Festival, members of the Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla sail across Tampa Bay on a pirate ship and “invade” the city. Shortly after, a “victory parade” ensues. The parade includes marching bands, elaborate floats, and members of the “krewe” throwing beads, coins, and other treats to the crowd.
The festival is held every year in late January or early February and promises fun for the whole family.
