Hotel History
The three palaces which comprise the hotel date from the 14th, 19th and 20th centuries: Palazzo Dandolo in Venetian Gothic style, once home to the noble Dandolo family; Palazzo Casa Nuova, previously the city’s treasury; and Palazzo Danieli Excelsior, redesigned by Jacques Garcia, and featuring guestrooms with balconies overlooking the lagoon on its upper floors.

The Most Noble Palace in Venice
The completed palazzo was described as “the most noble palace in Venice” for its proud Gothic architecture and privileged location overlooking the lagoon. As early as 1498, the Prince of Salerno took up rooms with his retinue, establishing it as a preferred venue for visiting noblemen. Records indicate that in 1525, a comedy was performed there for a prominent audience that included the Ambassador of Mantua.
The Birth of Hotel Danieli
Several centuries later, in 1822, Giuseppe Dal Niel rented part of the palazzo and converted it into a hotel, renaming it after his nickname “Danieli”. Little by little he bought all the floors and finally became sole owner. In 1895, Mr. Genovesi and the Campi Bozzi & C. become the new owners of the hotel. They completed expensive renovations, adding electrical power, vapour radiators, and elevator.
Modern Luxury
In 1906, Count Giuseppe Volpi founded the renowned CIGA hotels—“Compagnia Italiana Grandi Alberghi”—and acquired the Royal Hotel Danieli. The hotel underwent its final structural change in 1948 when the buildings separating Palazzo Dandolo and Palazzo delle Prigioni were demolished and a new building, the Danielino (today’s Palazzo Danieli Excelsior), was erected. This final addition was restyled in 2008.

Plan and Prepare for your Stay
Acqua Alta
High tide occurs more frequently during Autumn and Winter when the sea water partially covers some areas of the city. High tide is an enchanting event: the city and its buildings reflect on the water's surface. The main streets are equipped with overwater ways. We suggest checking the tide forecasts.
Water Taxis
Water taxis are available 24 hours through our concierge or from the local water taxi stands. A normal waiting time of 5-10 minutes should be expected from the time the taxi is ordered through the concierge.
Getting Around on Foot
Venice is best explored at a slower pedestrian pace, allowing visitors to wander the narrow streets, browse in the shops, and admire the architectural wonder as they go. Since the city is in fact quite small, walking her streets is a beautiful and suggestive way to discover her magic, even for the less energetic of visitors.
Public Water Transport
ACTV, Venice's public transport authority, sells Tourist Travel Cards for unlimited travel by land and water around Venice and the surrounding areas. Tickets can be purchased from the Hellovenezia ticket desk, through the concierge, or online with a credit card.
Private Hostess Assisted Transfer
The hotel is happy to arrange private hostess-assisted transfers from Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE). Private hostess-assisted transfers are available all hours of the day and require an advance booking of at least 48 hours with the hotel’s concierge desk.
More Transportation Details and Directions
Water taxis are available 24 hours a day and do not require advance bookings. They may be arranged directly upon arrival by contacting the Taxi Desk, "Consorzio Venezia Motoscafi," located at the extreme left of the airport arrivals hall, or at water taxi stands throughout the city.
Taxi waiting times may increase during evening hours and into the night. If transportation is required early in the morning, arrangements should be made with the concierge on the previous evening. Rates for taxis will vary, depending on the number of passengers, luggage, destination and time. A nominal gratuity that rounds out the total amount to the nearest Euro is customary. Please allow our concierge to take care of all transportation details.
From the Airport
A one way-water taxi fare from the airport to the hotel is approximately 120 EUR for up to 4 persons, dependent upon luggage. Taxi fares are payable in cash only to the water taxi drivers, and may not be charged to guest hotel bills. The water taxi station is to be found at the airport pier, a 5-minute walk (800 metres) from the arrivals hall.
We recommend that guests allow themselves to lose their way among the delightful hidden corners and squares that are so often missed by the crowds. General directions to the main points of interest in Venice are posted as yellow signs on the sides of buildings.
During periods of "acqua alta" (high water flooding), special walkways are set up to allow most of the main walking itineraries to be accessed. As the saying goes, when in Venice do as the Venetians do. Locals will don their rubber boots, paddling through the water and continuing their day-to-day activities. The flooding usually lasts only a couple of hours during periods of high tide and is most likely to happen during the winter months.
While the use of bicycles is not allowed in Venice itself, visitors may rent hybrid bicycles, tandem bicycles and electric scooters on the island of Lido. Rental prices run approximately 3 Euro per hour. An additional cleaning charge may also apply.
Persons with physical disabilities are invited to consult the town municipality website for updated information on itineraries that are particularly suited to wheelchair access or persons with sensorial disabilities. Please note, due to the 400+ bridges scattered throughout the city, not all parts of Venice are easily accessible.
The main points of interest in Venice may also be reached by public water transportation. Local waterbuses (vaporettos) run regularly along the Grand Canal, the Giudecca Canal, and across to the islands in the Venice lagoon. Line number 1 stops at all the stops along the Grand Canal. The vaporetto fare (excluding Alilaguna, Fusina and Clodia services) is Euro 7,50 per person, valid for 75 minutes from validation with changes allowed for travel in the same direction. 2, 3 and 7-days travel cards are also available and allow unlimited travel on the vaporettos (excluding Alilaguna, Fusina and Clodia services) for the time period purchased from the time of validation. Guests should be aware that vaporetto services are limited between 9 pm and 7 am. Vaporetto tickets and travel cards may be purchased from the Hellovenezia ticket desks and from authorised dealers.
Additional tourist services such as travel cards, municipal museum tickets and more may be purchased in advance online at Venice's official Tourism website.
To take advantage of savings, tourist services should be purchased at least 7 days in advance of travel.
From Venice Marco Polo Airport
A public boat service run by Alilaguna ("Linea Blu") is available from the airport pier to St. Mark's Square (boat stop San Zaccaria). Tickets may be purchased in cash only, from the Alilaguna desk in the airport arrivals hall or on board. Hotel Danieli is to be found directly opposite the San Zaccaria boat stop. Travel time is around 1h20.
An ATVO bus service is available from the bus terminal in front of the airport arrivals hall to Piazzale Roma from where you can take a water taxi or public water bus (see ACTV waterbuses scrolling down). No advance bookings are required. Tickets may be purchased from the ATVO office located in the arrivals lounge. Traveling time by bus is about 20 minutes. The boat service from Piazzale Roma takes approximately 45 minutes to Piazza San Marco.
From Treviso Airport
A Eurobus service run by ATVO is available in conjunction with the arrivals of Ryanair and Transavia flights. No advance bookings are required. Tickets may be purchased from the ATVO office or from the Currency Exchange office both located in the arrivals lounge. The Eurobus departs from the bus terminal in front of the departures area. Traveling time is 45 minutes.
From Venice Maritime Station
A public boat service run by Alilaguna ("Linea Blu") is available on a regular basis from the boat pier to St. Mark's Square (boat stop San Zaccaria). Tickets may be purchased directly on the Alilaguna website or on board with a small surcharge. Travel time is approximately 20 minutes.
From S. Lucia Railway Station
ACTV waterbuses (vaporetto) No. 1, 2, 41, 51 run on a regular basis from the waterfront outside the Venice Santa Lucia railway station towards Lido to the vaporetto stop San Zaccaria (St. Mark's Square). The Hotel Danieli is located opposite the vaporetto stop. Travel time to the Hotel Danieli is approximately 45 minutes, depending on the waterbus line.
From Piazzale Roma
ACTV waterbuses (vaporettos) No. 1, 2, 41, 51 depart regularly from the waterfront at Piazzale Roma towards Lido to the vaporetto stop San Zaccaria (St. Mark's Square). The ticket may be purchased, cash only, from the ACTV ticket office on the waterfront. Travel time is approximately 45 minutes, depending on the waterbus line.

Venice is built on water and transfer options from select arrival points may be reserved either entirely by private boat, or by car to Piazzale Roma and from there by private boat to Hotel Danieli. Charges are inclusive of a personal greeting by the hostess at the pickup location and porter assistance. Upon request, specially equipped motor launches can be arranged for guests with reduced mobility.

Self-Parking
The Garage Comunale is the largest among those in the Piazzale Roma, Venice bus terminal. Within walking distance from the Garage Comunale there are the boarding stops of all public waterbuses (ACTV) that allow Venetians and visitors to easily go anywhere in the city and the Venetian islands. For further information please contact the Hotel's Concierge desk.

For valet parking assistance, please refer to the Blitz Agency Office located in front of City Parking Garage. For assistance after business hours, please contact the hotel concierge to make arrangements for arrival.

There are two ways of moving around Venice: on foot through the calle and campos, or by boat.
The most convenient form of water transportation for getting around in Venice with your pet is the vaporetto, or waterbus.
Venice Petiquette
Local regulations require dogs to be kept on a leash at all times, and to be wearing a muzzle on the vaporetto, while smaller animals, such as cats, are allowed inside pet carriers or a cage.
The length of the leash may not exceed 1.20 m. Pet owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets so make sure you carry plastic bags or paper towels with you to remove any mess.
With the exception of guide dogs, animals are not permitted entry into the city’s circuit of museums, exhibitions, and churches. There is no municipal ordinance prohibiting entry into shops, bars, cafés or restaurants although entry to the premises will depend on the shopkeeper or bar, café and restaurant owners.
Popular Pet Routes
The ideal routes for taking your pet on a walk are different to the classic routes taken by visitors.
We recommend the following locations which are not too far from the Hotel Danieli, and which permit your four-legged friends to have fun exploring some of the city’s few green areas and public gardens:
The Royal Gardens which may be found between Piazza San Marco and Bacino di San Marco;
The Venice Giardini which is also home to the Venice Biennale;
From there you may continue along the waterfront to the Gardens of Sant’Elena island.
Explore these areas early morning or early evening and give your pets the opportunity to socialize with the locals.

About Venice
What is acqua alta?
High tide occurs more frequently during autumn and winter when the sea water partially covers some areas of the city. High tide is an enchanting event: the city and its buildings reflect on the water's surface. The main streets are equipped with overwater ways.
What is the tourist tax?
This City tax is to be paid by all guests and is applicable for stays up to a maximum of 5 consecutive nights and is to be settled by guests upon check-out.
During high season the tax is € 5.00 per person per night, and in the low season (January) it is €3.50 per person per night.
Children 10 years and below are exempt. Children 11 - 16 years pay 50% of the adult rate.
City tax levies are subject to change without notice.

How can I reach the hotel from the airport?
You can take a water taxi or use public transportations.
Do you have a private transfer service?
Yes, Hotel Danieli offers the possibility to book your private transfer with a hostess.
Museum
Are museums open everyday?
No, they are generally closed on Tuesdays.
Is it required to wear specific clothes to visit religious places?
During the Summer period, it may be requested to cover the neck and shoulders.
Payments
Can I make a cash payment in the hotel?
Yes but with a limit of € 2,999 for the citizens of the European area.
Can I change foreign currency?
Unfortunately not, but the Concierge is at your disposal to find the best solution for you.
Can I change banknotes into Euro?
Yes, except for banknotes of €200 and €500.
Do you have a cash withdrawal service in the hotel?
