Relaxation awaits at our oceanfront 142-yard lagoon-style pool (the length of a football field!), meandering through lushly landscaped gardens, just steps from the sand with views of Black Rock and Kaanapali Beach. Explore several large swimming areas, interconnected by lava-rock waterways, and a small waterslide, as well as a shallow children's area for safe splashing. Guests can enjoy lounge chairs surrounding the pool deck, or upgrade to casabellas, oceanfront cabanas, Alii deck cabanas, or beach chairs and umbrellas for rent.

    Pu‘u Keka‘a (Black Rock), fronting Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa, is one of the top snorkeling destinations on Maui and is home to an array of ocean activities, like kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, outrigger canoe adventures, and more.     The Nightly Cliff Dive Ritual

    As the sun begins its slow dive into the ocean, torch lighting signals the nightly ritual of lele kawa (cliff diving). Mauiʼs last ruling chief, Kahekili (Thunderer), a master of cliff jumping, loved to dive into the ocean from the leina a ka ʻuhane (leap of the soul) at Puu Kekaa (Black Rock). Because it was a portal where spirits on their journey to the afterlife would leap into eternity, his feats proved the great power of his mana (divine energy) to all. Every day since our resort opened in 1963, we celebrate Kahekiliʼs courageous journey between the physical and spiritual realm with a sunset cliff diving ritual from the very leina he jumped off of.

        Sheraton Maui’s nightly cliff dive ceremony takes place every evening at sunset, and has been a tradition at our Maui resort since first opening in 1963. This evening tradition is a free experience best enjoyed from our Kaanapali Beach restaurant Cliff Dive Bar & Grill, with live music, hula dancer, and narration of the story of Pu‘u Keka‘a (Black Rock) and Kahekili, the last chief of Maui, who the dive honors. Please note that the dive does not take place during inclement weather conditions. 

        Maui Nui Luau takes place three nights a week on our resort’s oceanfront lawn, steps from Kaanapali Beach. For more info, visit sheratonmauiluau.com.
