Noise complaint
The hotel needs to have more communication with managers and staff. To address the problem and if it is true what the complaints are or not.

Disappointed...again
Second time at this property. Disappointed again. No offer to help with luggage when we arrived. . Check-in took 20 min due to some sort of issue that was never explained. No recognition of my Marriott status. I used suite upgrade certificates which ended up being a waste. In the suite, the shower wouldn’t drain, no soap of any kind in the room, telephone didn’t work, and I couldn’t connect to the enhanced internet until I returned to the front desk and they adjusted something in their system. Poor water pressure making the large shower head useless. The suite also didn’t have a microwave. We had to call and request one. What year is this? We had two rooms. The second room had a very strong stench of cigarette smoke. I normally would have asked for a new room, but after the check-in experience decided to not deal with the hassle. When ordering in-room dining, the woman seemed bothered we had called and was rude. Bright spot was the exercise room. It needs some updating, but is excellent. The new lounge is also quite nice with very service-oriented employees. I’ve stayed 1000+ nights at Marriott properties. This is my first negative review. Gave this hotel a second shot, but it disappointed again. There are plenty of other options in the area.

Good hotel, horrible banquet food and service
The hotel itself is fine. Good quality rooms, friendly desk staff. Absolutely unacceptable food served in the banquet rooms. Steak and salmon were nearly inedible and the cake had to have been either many days old or left sitting under a heat lamp to have been so dry. Our food was served nearly an hour after the first table was served. When this was brought to the attention of the catering staff, they were extremely rude and unhelpful. We were eventually served cold, inedible food.

Poor customer service
When we first arrived it took 30 minutes waiting in line. There was some type of banquet for the Air Force. Once we made it to the front we got our room and headed for the elevator. That took 25 minutes to get to our room because the of massive amount of people waiting for the elevator and the elevator stopped of every floor. When we finally reached our room they gave us the wrong room. We asked for a king bed with glass door showers and a view of the Elizabeth river but instead we got two queen sized beds and a gross curtain shower. We had to get all of our bags, wait for an elevator that wasn’t full, go back downstairs, wait in line again and get our new room. When we talked to the man I asked for a discount on the room or a room upgrade for the massive inconvenience on our trip. The man said he wasn’t going to give us anything other then our right room with no upgrade or discount. We were very disappointed. Because we just missed the first thirty minutes of a concert (which was why we were there). The next day at checkout I reexplained the situation to the front desk woman and I asked her for a discount on the room but she told me no too. She instead tried to give me breakfast coupons to leave her alone. It’s obvious by someones attitude when they want you to go away. So my husband and I left. When I travel I have never asked for anything but that was so uncomfortable and unacceptable with how the staff compensates guests that I am spending more time writing this review. I am disappointed by the experience all together.

My Review
Good location but pretty run down. The elevators were terrible. Needs a much needed upgrade.

Weeklong stay
I had some issues with room location (right next to service elevator-no one should be placed there), maintenance issues, no microwave. But most staff were super! Received breakfast vouchers, concierge access, and hotel chocolates. Most staff were very personable. Busy spot in heart of downtown block away from Granby street which has great happy hour restaurant bar scene several blocks long. Felt very safe and was told they have Norfolk ambassadors wearing green shirts that will give you tips on what to do or allow you to report any strange activity. Walked around two nights and didn’t see them but none the less felt safe. One mall 2-3 blocks away and a pop up market, selden market is half block away but closes around 530/6.
