Sustainability & Community Engagement at Marriott Marquis Chicago
Sustainability & Community Engagement
At Marriott Marquis Chicago, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and supporting the community in which we are located. Enjoy a South Loop stay where the historic ABC Building is part of our property and local artists are featured throughout the hotel while knowing your stay is responsibly managed.
In 2025, Marriott Marquis Chicago earned a 4 Green Key rating through the Green Key Eco-Rating Program, recognizing national industry leadership in environmental management and corporate social responsibility. The rating reflects wide-ranging policies and mature programs that involve our associates, guests, and the wider community.
Our building holds LEED Silver certification, and our electricity use is matched with 100% wind renewable energy certificates. An automated building system manages heating and cooling to support efficient hotel operations.
Food scraps from our kitchens and events are composted through the Collective Resource Compost Cooperative, and used cooking oil is turned into biofuel. We donate usable soaps through Clean the World, offer residential-style amenities that reduce plastic waste, and provide labeled recycling bins in every guest room.
We partner with Testa Produce to source products locally within a 200-mile radius, and our menus feature plant-based options and ingredients from local and minority- and women-owned businesses. Condiments, creamers, and other individual servings are replaced with bulk items served in reusable containers.
We proudly partner with Fight2Feed, a 100% volunteer-driven organization dedicated to combating food waste and ending hunger. By donating surplus food from our banquet and restaurant operations, we help divert edible food from landfills and provide nourishing meals to neighbors in need throughout Chicago.
Local and minority- and women-owned businesses are featured in 2121 Pantry, Showroom Food Hall, and special menus, and works by local artists are displayed throughout the hotel. Supporting Chicago's creators is part of how we bring the city's character to every stay.
Our associates give back throughout the year through volunteer activities, community clean-ups, and Earth Day events, and our hotel supports Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Gently used linens, pillows, and furniture are donated to local organizations to extend their life and help others.
The historic ABC Building is part of our property, and on-site QR codes and videos share its story with guests, celebrating the heritage of Chicago's South Loop neighborhood.
Our partnership with Fight2Feed helps redirect surplus food from banquet and restaurant operations to support hunger relief in Chicago. Discover how our hotel works with local organizations to reduce food waste and make a meaningful community impact.
Request a Meeting Impact Report after your event. It captures key event details, highlights the sustainability practices implemented, and estimates your event's carbon footprint. Voluntary carbon offset options are available through the Arbor Day Foundation, where you can select your organization to support.
Select meeting spaces feature automated controls that adjust lighting based on the time of day. Together with the hotel’s automated building system, these features support more efficient energy management during meetings and events.
