The name “Knightsbridge” is attributed to a story dating back to Saxon times. The hamlets of "Chelsea", "Kensington" and "Charing" were separated from London by a bridge that crossed the River Westbourne. A band of knights, on their way to fight in the Holy Land, traversed the bridge when two in the group fell into a quarrel. The ensuing duel cost both knights their lives, and the bridge was named Knightsbridge in honor of their untimely deaths.

The Park Tower Knightsbridge, built by acclaimed architects Richard Robin Seifert & Partners, opened its doors in the heart of Knightsbridge on June 21, 1973. Prime Minister Edward Heath did the official honors.
