From Napkin Sketch to Miami Resort
A 50-year old property, Turnberry was at the core of Don Soffer's vision of present-day Aventura - a city that was planned out on a cocktail napkin by Don himself. The resort is still owned and managed by the Soffer family.
A Timeless Tradition
The city of Aventura, Spanish for “adventure”, began with a prestigious country club, 12 miles north of Miami with more of Don Soffer's planned developments rising up around it. Fast-forward several decades and today, JW Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa is a world-class resort and the centerpiece of the vibrant community of Aventura.

The standout interior design took inspiration from Miami’s art-deco history presenting clean, geometric lines coupled with classic designs and simple, sophisticated details. The Turnberry Legacy
For all its glitz and glamor, Turnberry traces its roots back to one humble origin — a stray cocktail napkin. Back in 1967, famed real estate developer Donald Soffer conceived a vision for an upscale residential area; and with help from his father, Harry, and a group of investors, he purchased 785 acres of South Florida swampland. Ownership changes, renovations, and expansions occurred in the decades since, and today — under the watchful eye of Donald's son, Jeffrey — the JW Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa occupies a spot on Travel + Leisure's "World's Best Resorts" list.
