Sarawak hosts a diverse population of tropical plant species and animals and is home to eight out of the world’s 54 species of hornbills.
Sarawak’s rainforests are primarily threatened by the logging industry and palm oil plantations, which endanger the precious ecosystem in the Malaysian state of Borneo. The hornbills in Sarawak are critically endangered and for years, hornbills in Sarawak have also faced the increasing risk of local poaching and wildlife traffickers, driving the flamboyant giant birds closer to extinction.
