Hotel History
The hotel opened its doors in 1929. Numerous French and international personalities wouldn’t have missed this grand opening and quickly became regular guests, including Sir Winston Churchill, Lord Chamberlain, the King of Yugoslavia, Lily Damita, and Marlene Dietrich.

Charles Laughton remained for long months in the hotel, protected from the chaos of the outside world. It was during this same period that Lily Damita returned under the name of Mrs. Errol Flynn and Lana Turner and Gina Lollobrigida discovered Paris through those very same windows.
In Germany for his military training in the 1960’s, Elvis Presley caused a stir when he sauntered through the lobby of the hotel, positioning himself in the heart of Paris.
More recently many French and international personalities, from sports to literary figures, have experienced the infinite magnetism of the Prince de Galles.
Did you know?
Before its construction, Frédéric Chopin, composer and pianist, lived in the building in the location of the current hotel.
Have you seen the movie "The King's Speech", directed by Tom Hooper and based on the story of King George VI? The Prince de Galles hotel was built to welcome his brother, who was played by Guy Pearce in the movie.

The Suite d’Or is a spacious and refined retreat with gold and black features that showcase French craftsmen know-how. The Suite Saphir is a sumptuous Art Deco suite in beige and blue tones that provides an intimate atmosphere and features two furnished terraces over the famous Avenue George V. At last, Prince de Galles has collaborated with Lalique, the iconic French crystal glass manufacturer, to offer a brand new unique experience, like no other to be found in Paris: the Suite Lalique by Patrick Hellmann.

Once a guest has arrived at the Prince de Galles, the concierge team stands ready to be of service, dedicated to ensuring that each guest is able to unlock the very best of Paris. Each Luxury Collection Concierge is a bilingual, certified destination expert, proudly wearing “Les Clefs d’Or”, the gilt insignia of the celebrated international concierge society, and eager to reveal the secret treasures of their city.
No request is too difficult for our Head Concierge and the members of her team. From gourmet dinner reservations to hard-to-find event tickets, our team always performs to the highest standards of service. Turn to them for limousine service, childcare information, floral arrangements, spa appointments, golf reservations, directions, general inquiries, and much more.
For the delight of our gourmet guests and sophisticated travelers, our concierge will gladly arrange a trip to the nearby Wine Museum of Paris for visit and private wine testing, a day trip to the Champagne wineries, or any personalized tours by private guides to suit your specific interests.
As for our younger guests, Paris offers many activities suited for children. Our concierge team recommends the Jardin d’acclimatation, a charming theme park just fifteen minutes away from the hotel; the Musée de la poupée, a doll museum; the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, a decorative arts museum; the Grand Aquarium du Trocadéro, a brand new aquarium near the Eiffel Tower; Disneyland Resort Paris; and the Parc Astérix amusement park. Personalized tours of the Parisian attractions for children may also be arranged with a private guide.
