Located on the same elegant piazza as The St. Regis Florence, its graceful façade hides a remarkable number of Renaissance frescoes painted by the most celebrated names in art history; Ghirlandaio and Botticelli, both born and bred in the city and true Florentine masters.
Here the walls are a real ‘who’s who’ of the Renaissance art world. From one of the vastest cycles of frescoes in the whole city to unique, ground-breaking contributions to the fresco art form itself, by masters like Masaccio, Ghirlandaio, Paolo Uccello and Filippino Lippi.
Inside this basilica’s Sassetti Chapel are a collection of frescoes by Ghirlandaio, celebrated not only for their intricate detail and vivid colours, but also because they serve as a window into daily life in 15th century Florence. Ghirlandaio’s ‘Adoration of the Shepherds’ is considered his masterwork.
Renowned for hosting one of the masterpieces of early Renaissance art: the Brancacci Chapel, this church is home to the work of Masaccio and Masolino. Their frescoes showcase a revolutionary approach to depicting space and human form in an almost sculptural way.
