Home to Andrea del Castagno’s exceptional ‘The Last Supper’, located in what was the ancient and monumental dining-hall of the Benedictine nuns who worshipped Saint Apollonia. These nuns were under such strict vows of seclusion, that this fresco was practically hidden from the world for over 400 years!
A prominent landmark of Florence, this basilica hosts some of the most famous frescoes by Giotto - widely considered to be the father of Renaissance art. His frescoes had been considered masterpieces for so long that even Michelangelo came to study them!
The convent was home to the celebrated early Renaissance painter and friar Fra Angelico, whose magnificent frescoes offer a spiritual and meditative experience. His frescoes also adorn each of the 43 cells of the dormitory, creating an atmosphere of contemplation that transcends time.
