Hannover Has Much More to Offer

In seven unique theme worlds you will meet over 3.000 animals: take a boat trip on the Zambezi River, visit the Indian Jungle Palace, the fascinating Gorilla Mountain and the Australian Outback. Enjoy the countryside at Meyer’s Farm, the children’s paradise at Helme Heine’s Mollywoop and the new Canadian Yukon Bay, with its highlight, the Underwater World. Hourly animal shows and show feedings, three summer toboggan-runs and a wide range of adventure gastronomy, also make your visit at the Zoo Hanover unforgettable.

The Herrenhausen Gardens are Hannover’s most famous attraction and have been a striking example of grand horticultural style for more than 300 years. The Garden is home and habitat to many rare plants and trees, the tender green rococo garden, the knotted renaissance flower beds, the historical Hedge Theatre adorned in green and gold, one of the highest fountains and one of the largest collections of orchids.

Back when King George V. of Hanover made Marienburg Castle a gift to his wife, Queen Marie, he had no idea that his token of love would one day become one of the most impressive historic monuments in Germany. Today, Marienburg Castle has become a center for music, art and culture. It’s especially impressive because of the almost entirely preserved interior and the lavish outer appearance. You can still visit the state rooms and private chambers of the royal family, the Queen’s library with its beautifully decorated umbrella vault and the fully preserved castle kitchen.

Looking for Something Special? Try a Guided Segway Tour!

First, your tour through Hanover leads along the "Red Thread", which reaches 4.2 km across the city and runs along the most important sights. After a short while, you'll reach the old city center with its narrow lanes and ancient frameworks. Besides great shopping opportunities, you'll find many cafes and the oldest townhouse from 1566, as well as the Kreuzkirche, Hanover's oldest church.

A next stop on your tour through Hanover is the Maschsee, an ideal destination for sports enthusiasts and those who are looking for recreation. Maschsee offers activities for everyone: sailing, canoeing, pedal boat cruising and of course running and skating along the shore. In the summer, the lake hosts the Maschseefestival, the biggest open air festival in northern Germany.

Now you'll get a little rest at Herrenhausen Gardens, which you definitely shouldn't miss on your tour through Hanover. Besides rest and recreation, there is a lot to discover in the Great Garden, pleasant-scented Hill Garden and George Garden. Many small restaurants and cafes offer refreshments for your break. You also shouldn't miss when the word's best pyrotechnic artists deliver spectacular fireworks at the famous International Fireworks Competition.
