The Excelsior Hotel Gallia stands at the beating heart and transit nexus of Milan, Italy’s progressive capital of fashion, design, gastronomy and commerce. Our original building–a majestic Art Deco-era landmark built on the western edge of Piazza Duca d’Aosta, adjacent to Stazione Centrale–officially opened in 1932. A modern steel-and-glass tower designed by Marco Piva has been added to create a unique impression, blending past and present to forge an extraordinary synergy. Excelsior Hotel Gallia has long been a standout for its remarkable spirit and its prestigious pedigree, with luxuriously appointed guest rooms, fine dining, a world class spa and, of course, unbeatable proximity to not only Milan’s attractions but also all of Northern Italy.
Excelsior Hotel Gallia features 235 luxuriously appointed guest rooms, including over 50 suites. Our Katara Royal Suite is the largest in any Italian hotel, at 1000 square meters. Each and every chamber showcases Milan’s renowned aesthetic, with design touches including handcrafted and modern elements by local ateliers including B&B Italia, Cassina, Fendi Casa and Flos. Many rooms hold direct views over the Piazza Duca d’Aosta, which, in the summertime, turns a pale gold as clouds of rondini (swallows) flock overhead.
Excelsior Hotel Gallia holds 53 curated suites ranging in size and atmosphere. In one example, our Signature Suites are infused with inspiration from world renowned Italian creators such as Gio Ponti and Castiglioni–many feature their designs. In another, our Atelier Suites are conceived as art galleries, upping the theatricality ante with unique lighting and colour use.
Our collection of two- and three-bedroom suites provides maximum comfort for families or groups seeking both proximity and privacy.
Deemed the most sizable of its kind in Italy, the Katara Royal Suite stands at the pinnacle of the hotel, clocking in at just over 1,000 square meters. This extraordinary offering also comes with outdoor space, featuring tree lined and sun-filled terraces along our top floor.
The grand soaring ceiling and bay windows overlooking the iconic Railway Station of Milan provides the perfect venue for guests to gather and enjoy light Italian and International meals during the day or a casual coffee or afternoon tea. The perfect location to catch up with friends for a drink or retreat to a banquet and catch up on some light reading from the impressive selection of International newspapers and magazines. The adjacent Library, Living room and Cigar Bar offer additional areas for guests to retreat and enjoy more privacy.
Shiseido Spa’s menu includes massages, facials and Japanese bathing ceremonies with foot cleansing rituals, exfoliation treatments, and hydrotherapy baths.
The exclusive golden Himalayan Salt Cabin, which features a relaxation area with lounge chairs, soothes respiratory and skin conditions with its illuminated iodine-free wall.
Indulge in the unique Private Spa Suite, an exclusive refuge for wellness. An intimate atmosphere welcomes you and a loved one (or a close friend) to a private journey towards tranquility.
The Spa features six individual treatment rooms–including the exclusive Private Spa Suite–that embody the essential philosophy of Shiseido. Think: polished wood details, neutral hues, and natural light.
Start the day with a splash in the Italian fashion capital by taking a morning dip and indulging in a relaxing Jacuzzi moment at our panoramic indoor swimming pool.
The founder of our hotel, Carlo Gallia, was known to take great and meticulous care of his business; he wanted Excelsior Hotel Gallia to compete with the very best properties in Europe. The Duke of Bergamo called the hotel “truly regal,” which furthered and enhanced its pedigree. As it happens, Gallia had hospitality on his mind from a young age. At only 17, he left home to learn “the art of the guest.” He remained abroad for the next 15 years, working in several different European locales (London, Paris, Berlin, Lucerne, Monte Carlo, and St. Moritz). Upon returning to Milan with a wealth of experience, he founded our beloved property.
The owner of the hotel, Carlo Gallia, took lavish care over all the aspects of the business because he wanted to equal the best hotels in Europe. The Duke of Bergamo called the hotel 'truly regal' and it immediately became the most prestigious location in Milan.
Carlo Gallia, at the age of only 17, left the Gallia family to learn 'the art of the guest' and remained abroad for the next 15 years. He worked in several different European countries alternating tourist resorts and cities (London, Paris, Berlin, Lucerne, Monte Carlo, St. Moritz). Once affirmed in his profession, he then founded Excelsior Hotel Gallia.
All of Excelsior Hotel Gallia’s furniture is Made in Italy, with several pieces produced in collaboration with Milanese artisans and designers. Discover our unique collection of more than 500 art pieces designed by Studio Marco Piva exclusively for the property, too. These include paintings, sculptures and photographs.
Alongside the magnificent, iconic Katara and Gallia suites, the hotel offers an outstanding selection of 51 suites divided over several suite categories. Atelier suites have been designed to recall the mood of creative workshops and Signature suites have been conceived as art galleries with theatrical use of illumination, colors and artwork.
Panoramic suites feature a spectacular large sliding panel with beautiful photos of the historic hotel façade. Executive suites are particularly suitable for today's business travelers.
Terrazza Gallia has been fitted out in the finest detail by B&B Italia. From the bar counter - a stand-out piece created from melted aluminium - guests may walk out onto the terrace to admire the elegant design of Fendi Outdoor, Knoll and Varaschin, overlooking the Milanese skyline.
The restaurant has been created as a theater. Food is the main character surrounded by black, matched with bronzed steel which recalls the Art Déco style of the hotel. Admire chandeliers from La Murrina and the Tattoo lamp by architect Marco Piva showing a dramatic play on light.
