Discover Marine Conservation
Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa features a Marine Conservation Hub, a house reef brimming with green and hawksbill turtles, and shoals of marine life. In collaboration with the resort’s dive partner, Sub Oceanic , we are monitoring the condition of the reefs and invite guests of all ages to participate in a range of immersive conservation initiatives, led by the resort’s marine biologist.
The Marine Hub
The Marine Hub is the launch point for diving into the resort’s passion for the flora and fauna on land and in the sea. Delve into our philosophy that places sustainability at its core, experience unique activities including mangrove conservation, go behind the scenes of the resort’s environmental programmes, and trail the resort’s nature during the day to see how it transforms at night.
Coral Awareness
Join our resident marine biologist for a guided snorkeling experience, encountering turtles, rays, and vibrant marine life in their natural habitat. Learn to outline coral structures, identify different species, and explore the challenges facing these vital ecosystems. A meaningful way to connect with nature, and leave a positive environmental footprint.
Thilamaafushi Marine Masters
This is a specially designed programme that inspires children and adults to connect with the environment around them in the hope of future preservation. The immersive programme is available in bite-size modules or a full curriculum. Spearheaded by the resort’s marine biologist, topics include atoll topography, coral identification and health monitoring, turtle and even ray or shark identification.
Marine Biologist Guided Dolphin Cruise
Cruise towards the sunset and head into the feeding grounds of Maldivian dolphins. Experience a breathtaking encounter as dolphins leap above the waves, surrounded by the changing colours of the world. Our marine biologist will educate you about these intelligent mammals. The great attraction of dolphin watching in the Maldives lies in the remarkable diversity of species found here.
Seagrass: Nature's Secret to a Thriving Reef
Seagrass keeps the lagoon clean by removing bacteria and pollutants and prevents beach erosion by holding sand in place. It’s vital for turtles, rays, and young fish, supporting marine biodiversity. Seagrass also captures carbon efficiently and produces oxygen. Protecting it helps maintain clear waters, healthy reefs, and a thriving ecosystem.
Behind The Scenes Sustainability Tour
Go behind the scenes and explore how the resort operates as sustainably as possible. Learn about water desalination, glass compacting, food composting, and the resort’s solar panel plant – the largest of all resorts in the archipelagic country. Delve into our philosophy that places sustainability at its core.
Revive in Sustainable Spaces
Mid‑century modern design with clean lines, innovative materials, and renewable resources shapes the sustainable approach of our villas and restaurants, essential for the Maldives’ ecosystem. Natural airflow, artisanal elements, and mindful material use create an efficient, future‑focused environment that enhances wellbeing while reducing environmental impact.
Maldives Solar-Powered Resort: Energizing Tomorrow
Le Méridien Maldives blends luxury with sustainability, powered by a 569 kWp solar system of over 2,000 panels, one of the largest in the Maldives. The resort generates 40% of its daytime energy from solar, saving about 750 liters of diesel daily. Solar accounts for 16% of yearly consumption, and 1,000+ solar lights illuminate the jetty, paths, and beach, showcasing its commitment to green energy.
Fresh Drinking Water From Ocean Through Reverse Osmosis
Embrace the allure of our secluded paradise, where we've conquered the challenge of sourcing fresh water with our cutting-edge desalination plant. Through the reverse osmosis, we transform pristine seawater into a refreshing oasis of still and sparkling water, each elegantly served from separate taps and poured into reusable Le Méridien branded glass bottles, gracing every room and restaurant.
From Waste to Raw Material: Efficient Recycling Methods
We compost up to 700 kg of food waste daily into nutrient-rich compost using an odor-free, smoke‑free dehydration process. Waste heat from generators is recycled for hot water, and over 2 million liters of rainwater are harvested yearly. Our system treats 150,000 liters of water daily for irrigation, and glass bottles are crushed and reused for cement blocks and art.
