Restore the Fort: Why It Matters
Plastic Waste Taking a Toll on Chapora Fort
Chapora Fort is an exemplary symbol of Goan history, representing unity and hope for the village of Chapora and its neighboring villages.
However, in recent years, the historical monument experienced a slow deterioration due to an influx of tourists and increasing plastic pollution. As a result, Chapora Fort is losing its original charm, and the village of Chapora and its neighbours risk losing their historical symbol of unity and hope.
Restore the Fort: The Experience
Bring Back the Charm of Chapora Fort Alongside the Local Community
W Goa invites guests to join Goan community members to clear plastic waste at the Chapora Fort.
Led by the hotel’s recreation manager, guests can experience a 1.5 to 2-hour trek alongside local community members to help clean up the area around Chapora Fort. The experience brings participants together to alleviate pollution in the area by clearing and disposing plastic waste.
After the cleanup, guests are invited back to the hotel to enjoy the sunset with our in-house music curator in true W style.
Restore the Fort: The Impact
Renew and Sustain the Chapora Fort
The program makes an important impact on the local community by helping to reduce the pollution around the historical monument of Chapora Fort.
Since the inception of W Goa, the Chapora Fort has been an important part of the property’s allure and provides a magnificent backdrop that is unparalleled by any other hotels in the city. The historical monument has also stood with the village of Chapora and its neighboring villages through time. The program brings guests and community members together to collectively restore the Fort to its original charm and preserve the historical site for future generations to come.
